Be Transformed

“That is not what I was expecting.” This was a comment from a friend after the first time she met my then boyfriend, Richard. “What were you expecting?” I asked. “You know, some wimpy Christian guy” she replied.  Why did she think this? She thought this, because earlier I had shared with her that, he had chosen to surrender his whole life to Christ, including his dating life. He was no longer having sex outside of marriage. My now husband is in fact a Christian, but far from “wimpy”. He is a real guys guy.

I think that in general we tend to see being obedient to Christ as an easy path, a sign of weakness. The truth is, when we choose to follow God it is a sign of strength. You have to be willing to go against the norm. We have to be willing to trust even when we cannot quite see it and it does not make sense to others.

When Richard and I chose to date Gods way, it was not a popular decision, even among our Christian friends. I was told I was wasting my time or that he just was not that into me. I am so glad I did not listen to my well-meaning friend! With our own past divorces and with the number of couples that are getting divorced, we wanted something more. When you want something different, you have to do something different. We all know the definition of insanity, doing the same thing and expecting different results. You have to change your pattern.

It is easy to do what everyone else is doing. When you want Gods best for your life, you have to make a new choice. It might not be dating for you, maybe it is a dream to own your own business or travel the world. Do you stay stuck where you are or do you make a bold step that might not make sense to the people around you?

I was reading this morning in Romans 12:2,

“Do not conform any longer to the patterns of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will is.”

Make the brave choice to trust God. Risk being misunderstood and watch what God will do.

It takes Courage to step out and it will take a strong commitment to keep going. It will be difficult, but do not quit! There is victory on the other side if you do not give up. Most importantly, it requires Faith. Stand firm on Gods promises. He has an amazing plan for you.

Courage + Commitment + Faith = The Right Combination.
